Why
is the SONGBIRD disposable?
The SONGBIRD Disposable Hearing Aid is so technologically
advanced, it's disposable
just like the contact lenses. Because Songbird is disposable,
there are no batteries to replace, never any repairs and no
major commitment. Songbird's short life cycle allowed us to
design the exclusive ComforSeal Tip to be soft and comfortable.
Plus, Songbird's sound quality measures up to the best traditional
hearing aids on the market, even at its low cost of just $39
for 40 days. That's less than a dollar a day. (Professional
fees are additional.)
Is
the SONGBIRD more expensive than other hearing aids?
No. Songbird costs $39 (professional fees not included) for
40 days of use. That's less than a dollar a day! Over a five-year
period, Songbird Disposable Hearing Aids cost roughly the
same as a traditional hearing aid with equivalent sound quality.
With Songbird, patients can always have the latest technology
there's never a big up-front financial commitment to worry
about, and each Songbird will always include the latest technological
updates. No expensive batteries, repairs or costly insurance
to cover the loss of a hearing aid. It
is disposable just get a new one!
What
about SONGBIRD's quality?
Songbird has built a hearing aid with innovative, high-tech,
custom components that result in excellent sound quality,
comparable to the most respected traditional hearing aids
on the market. Components include:
Mega-Mike
Microphone, with a diaphragm that is 7 times larger than
ordinary hearing aid microphones for increased sound fidelity.
ComforSeal Tip for extra
comfort. The tip also allows for deep fit to prevent feedback
and improved hearing in noisy environments.
Custom Integrated Circuit,
built exclusively for Songbird and incorporating state-of-the-art
programming.
Mighty-Mite Receiver,
which is small in size but has the high sensitivity of much
larger receivers.
Energy-Plus
Battery, which delivers a full 40 days of life when used
12 hours per day and never needs to be changed.
How
do I take care of the SONGBIRD?
Although it is easy to use, the SONGBIRD Disposable
Hearing Aid is a precision instrument. To ensure the best
performance, take the following precautions:
Do not allow any liquid to enter the hearing aid.
Handle
carefully. Do not drop or throw the hearing aid.
Do not
use hair spray when wearing the hearing aid.
Keep
the hearing aid out of the reach of small children and pets.
Store
the hearing aid at room temperature. Do not expose it to
excessive temperatures from heat lamps, hair dryers, stoves,
windowsills, or the car's glove compartment.
Do not
attempt to open the hearing aid or make do-it-yourself repairs.
What
do I do with the SONGBIRD once the battery dies?
Discard the hearing aid by carefully placing it in a receptacle
that cannot be accessed by infants, small children, or persons
of mental incapacity.
How
do I make the SONGBIRD work?
The SONGBIRD Disposable Hearing Aid has been designed
for simplicity of use. When ready to use, simply grasp the
sealed package at the grip tab provided. Bend the tab upward
to release the seal. Lift and pull the tab to peel back the
foil and open the package. This will activate the battery
and make the device ready to use. The device is turned on
by gently pressing in the Power-Saver Switch so that
it is flush with the hearing aid body. This will most often
happen automatically as part of the insertion process.
How
do I insert the SONGBIRD Disposable Hearing Aid?
Insertion of the SONGBIRD Disposable Hearing Aid varies
according to the shape of the ear. Some ear canals are fairly
straight and insertion is easy. Others may have rather severe
bends and require more patience. Here are some insertion tips:
Before insertion, lubricate the ComforSeal Tip with a hearing
aid lubricant. It may also be helpful to slightly lubricate
the ear canal using a drop of oil on the tip of your finger
prior to insertion.
Hold
the hearing aid between your thumb and forefinger so that
the inner curve of the shell bends toward you. The POWER
switch will be in the up position when the SONGBIRD Disposable
Hearing Aid is inserted into the right ear, and in the down
position when inserted into the left ear.
Pull
down on the ear lobe with your other hand, and slowly wiggle
the hearing aid into the ear canal; at the same time, wiggle
the ear lobe up and down. Wiggling slowly allows the tip
to slide in more easily.
As the
hearing aid goes deeper in the ear, a full feeling may mean
that the ComforSeal Tip has not entered the ear canal
at the proper angle. You may be able to correct this by
pulling on the top of the auricle, while slowly removing
the hearing aid slightly out of the ear canal, then repeating
the previous step. In a proper fit, you should almost feel
the hearing aid "fall" into place after it has been inserted.
If insertion is uncomfortable, remove it and try the entire
insertion process again.
How
do I remove the SONGBIRD?
Remove the device by grasping the on/off removal handle of
the Power-Saver Switch between the thumb and forefinger.
Slowly wiggle the instrument from the ear canal. This should
automatically move the switch to the off position.
How
do I store the SONGBIRD?
When it is not in use, place the SONGBIRD Disposable
Hearing Aid in its carrying case for storage in a cool, dry
location.
Can
I use the SONGBIRD with telephones? How about my cellular?
Yes. You can use the Songbird with telephones of all types;
however, if feedback (whistling) occurs, tilt the telephone
away from the ear until the whistling stops. Try various positions
with the telephone to minimize or eliminate feedback. What
should I do if I still get feedback (whistling)? Remove the
device and reinsert it. The fit has probably become dislodged,
allowing sound to escape around the hearing aid tip.
How
will I get replacement SONGBIRD Disposable Hearing Aids?
You can pick up your supply of SONGBIRD Disposable Hearing
Aids from your hearing professional, or the hearing aids can
be delivered directly to your home or office.* Just let
your hearing specialist know your preference.
*Mailing hearing aids is not permitted in some states
by law.
Can
I order SONGBIRD over the Internet?
No. Songbird is available only from hearing professionals,
because it is a medical device that requires professional
dispensing.
Will
my format change?
It might. Your hearing should be checked annually to see if
further hearing loss has occurred. As long as your hearing
loss remains in the mild-to-moderate range, one of the Songbird
formats should fit your needs. That's one of the great things
about Songbird
you've lost nothing if your format changes, and you can afford
to update to the new format immediately.
What
happens if I want to return my SONGBIRD?
The SONGBIRD Disposable Hearing Aid is unconditionally guaranteed.
Return it for any reason (except normal expiration of the
battery) and we'll replace it or refund your money.
What
happens if someone swallows it?
Hearing aid batteries can be dangerous if swallowed or improperly
used. Keep the SONGBIRD Disposable Hearing Aid out of reach
of anyone who might swallow it, including children and pets.
