Why do I need to see a hearing healthcare professional?
If you suspected you had a cavity, you would see a dentist. If you thought you might need glasses, you would visit your eye doctor. Just as these healthcare providers are a necessary step in caring for your teeth and eyes, a visit to a hearing healthcare professional* is crucial if you’re having difficulty with your hearing.
Because Songbird Digital Disposable Hearing Aids are FDA-regulated medical devices, they can only be dispensed by a licensed professional. During your initial visit, your hearing professional will complete a series of tests to determine the type of hearing loss you have. (For example, an otoscopic exam looks for wax, occlusions, perforations in the eardrum, fluid, infections or abnormalities in the canal, which are all possible causes of hearing loss.) Although most hearing losses can be helped with hearing aids, there are some cases where medical intervention will be necessary and your hearing healthcare provider can make the appropriate referrals.
Once testing is completed, hearing aid candidacy is determined and your test results are explained, your hearing healthcare provider will determine the most appropriate Songbird Digital Disposable Hearing Aid format for you.
Your hearing healthcare professional will teach you proper insertion and removal techniques for the Songbird Digital, and will help to ease your transition back into hearing sounds that you may have been missing for several years.
*Fees for hearing exams are set independently by your hearing healthcare professional, and will vary according to your healthcare needs. (Fees are similar to those charged by an eye doctor; ask your hearing healthcare professional for details.) Fees for hearing examinations are not controlled by Songbird Hearing Inc.
